Why Do I Need an Anger or Domestic Abuse Evaluation?
Our clients come to us for a variety of reasons. Many clients come to us because they need an anger or domestic abuse evaluation for a court hearing or at the request of an employer. At times, anger is a concern in divorce or child custody issues and an assessment is requested. Clients also come to us with personal concerns about how they are dealing with their anger.
Uncontrolled anger can result in disruption of one’s personal life and others, resulting in domestic violence, spousal abuse, road rage, and professional and personal conflicts. It’s also damaging to one’s health and well-being.
What to Expect During Your Assessment
Completing an anger assessment is the first step towards managing your anger. The information gathered during the assessment can provide awareness on how one chooses to react in different situations. One of the founders of Gestalt therapy, Fritz Perls, famously said that “awareness in and of itself is curative.” Becoming aware of how you respond and use anger can help you make initial, positive changes.
Components of an Anger/Domestic Abuse Assessment
During the anger/domestic abuse assessment, clients are asked to answer questions relating to different situations and how they would respond. The anger assessment evaluates the level of anger the client experiences, screens for aggression, and assesses whether responses are appropriate.
We look at the extent to which behavior could potentially cause harm to others or oneself. Harm does not necessarily mean physical abuse; it can be emotional, financial, or the physical damage to your own body due to habitual stress.
Following the assessment, you are provided with the results of the evaluation. If further help is recommended, we provide trusted referrals and resources, such as an anger management class or therapy.
Court-Ordered Evaluations and Telehealth Appointments
In addition to office appointments, we provide HIPAA-compliant telehealth assessments. This allows us to help clients across Minnesota, by making it easier to fulfill court, divorce, or employer requirements from the comfort of their home.
Do You Also Need a Chemical Health Assessment?
Many times alcohol or drug use may contribute to situations where the response to anger is a concern. A chemical health assessment can help determine the extent of someone’s personal use of alcohol or drugs. Click here to find more information on chemical health assessments.
